As a busy working mom of two young children, I want my health goals to be less about numbers and more about feeling great! I want to set a good example for my kids, confident in my day to day choices and in my own skin.
I’ve learned self-compassion on my journey to better health and happiness. We all struggle with something. Finding our own strength is so important to success. One of my greatest barriers was believing I could change. Breaking up my goal into little pieces has been key. Woohoo, I ate dinner at the dining room table!!! It’s not huge, but it’s another step on climbing this mountain.
Enjoying life is much more important to me than my weight or shape. Spending time with family and friends, eating good food, being successful at the things I do… and just being happy… That’s my wellness plan!
When I stopped yo-yo dieting and started focusing on feeling good, everything changed. I exercised to keep stress at bay. I ate well for the energy I needed for my family and my business. I actually lost weight without going to extremes!
Happiness, for me, is volunteering with Pet Promise rescue group. Raising money, fostering dogs, and giving them a second chance gives me a sense of purpose. I love exercise and eating well too, but my health is about so much more than that!
Health and happiness requires self-care and planning for success! Do what you enjoy and ask for help with things you don’t love for better health and satisfaction. I have fun creating and sharing recipes so spending time on that feels effortless to me, but I know that’s not everyone.
I used to make decisions about food and exercise based on how I felt about my weight and body – like a punishment. No more! My relationships with my husband, family, and friends fill me with happiness. They love me for me and so do I!
Never stop learning, improving, and making positive adjustments, it will keep your mind, body and spirit fresh!
Besides making time for healthy habits, it’s the little things in your home that can make you feel great, like fresh flowers to give your space some natural beauty, or new throw pillows that give your home a pop of color.
Diets don’t work for me because if you tell me I can’t have it, I obsess and go eat it anyway — times 150! I know what I “should” eat, but sometimes I don’t want to, ya know? Sometimes it’s pizza and beer and sometimes fish and spinach. I’d rather set realistic goals for myself and live a little. That makes me happier and healthier.
I don’t own a scale and I don’t want to. It’s all about how I feel in my body. I’m much happier not focusing on numbers.
