One of my absolute favorite events of the year is coming up tomorrow…that’s right, BlogHer 2013! For those of you not familiar with it, BlogHer is a one-of-a-kind event that brings together over 4,000 bloggers from around the country to learn about what’s new in the world of blogging and to interact with some really awesome brands!
CAN-t Wait to See You!
I am especially excited for BlogHer this year because not only am I attending this fabulous event, but I am partnering up with an awesome campaign called Cans Get You Cooking. Cans Get You Cooking is a program dedicated to spreading the word about the benefits of cooking with canned food. I’m all about cooking home-based meals – it’s an easy way to eat healthier and save money.
What you may not know is that canning is one of the best ways to get food from the farm to your family’s table. The canning process locks in foods’ freshness, flavor and nutrients at the peak of ripeness, just hours after picking. It’s field to sealed!
Stop By the Booth
The Cans Get You Cooking booth is going to super fun but also educational. They’re going to bring to life an actual pantry – or CANTRY! – that’s going to be stocked with lots of your favorite canned food items. The Cantry will also feature some exciting videos and that’s where yours truly will be! I’ll be sharing fun facts, recipe ideas and answering your questions.
Now, we wouldn’t want you to leave BlogHer empty-handed! When you arrive at the Cans Get You Cooking booth, the first thing you’ll get to do is take a photo of your beautiful faces! Once you’ve gone through our Cantry, you’ll receive a can wrapped with your very own, personalized can label. The can will be filled with some great media materials as well as coupons from terrific canned brands. I can’t wait to make my own!
In addition to your personalized canned ‘goodie bag’ I will be sharing with you my favorite tips & recipes on cooking with cans. Whether its a holiday pie, a quick snack, or a family dinner, canned foods are affordable, nutritious, and perfectly portioned for cooking.
My Favorite CAN-do Recipes
One of my favorite lunch time meals is tuna salad. My recipe has only 100 calories per serving and 2 grams of fat! It’s perfect for a wrap, flat bread melt, on top of salad greens, or simply on its own. The best part- it’s so simple. Made with chunk light tuna, relish, mayo, dijon mustard, and lowfat yogurt. By using canned tuna you receive all of the nutritious benefits of tuna, while saving time and money.
How about a sweet dessert? My recipe for pumpkin banana bread is always my go to for a simple treat. Using only canned pumpkin puree, bananas, oats, eggs, and spices you can make a moist, cake-like treat chock full of nutrition. Not only is canned pumpkin great for its convenience, low cost, and flavor, it is also high in vitamin A, iron, and potassium.
